Mali is situated in West Africa and shares borders with seven other countries, those being, Algeria to the north, Niger to the east, Burkina Faso to the southeast, Ivory Coast to the south, Guinea to the southwest, Senegal to the west and Mauritania to the northwest!
This delightful pair of hand made dolls are pillow-shaped cloth dolls, with no arms and legs. The bodies are filled with mud-cloth. Their heads are small calabashes with painted smiling features. (Calabashes are fruits, a species of pear, which grows on the bottle gourd tree in India and West Africa). The red ribbon attached to the front of the dolls is an international aids awareness. 10% of the purchase price goes to charities in Mali to assist individuals living with aids.
12" high. Mali, Northwest Africa. 2004.
