Male and female pair of hand made, well made cloth dolls with painted features and wool hair.
The male doll is a Yoruba man. The Yoruba people live in the south west of Nigeria and the majority of them speak the Yoruba language. He is wearing a blue dashiki shirt and trousers, and a kufi hat.
The female doll is a Benin woman (Kingdom of west African Kingdom) based on Benin City which is now in southern Nigeria. The scrolled braid on her dress is highlighted with very tiny diamante stones, which do not show up on a photograph. She is wearing the typical Benin headress of red beads with a matching cape, necklace, bracelet and earings. Both dolls have beautifully made leather slip-on sandals.
14" and 15" high. Nigeria, West Africa 2009.
Makers marks: None.
