Senegal is situated in West Africa. It is bordered by Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east and Guinea to the south. It also surrounds the thin finger-shaped country of Gambia. The Atlantic coast is on the west.
Male doll. Cloth over wire armature. Embroidered features. Multi-coloured clothing made from African-made fabrics. The doll was made by a woman in order to support her family of ten. She is the sole beadwinner because her husband is not able to work as he is a lot older than her. Due to lack of funds this woman and her family were evicted from their home and were then living in the same neighbourhood in one room. This information was given to me by a member of U.N.I.C.E.F. who was working there at the time.
The makers name is - Mme. Ndiaye.
13" high. Senegal, West Africa 2004.
Makers marks: None. (Mme. Ndiaye did not label the doll).
