A beautiful hand made female doll with a baby. Her name is "Sihusisiwe" and she is made of felt and is exquisitely decorated with multi-coloured seed beads. Both mother and baby have applied felt eyes and mouthes, and hand sewn on ears. She was made in the Red Cross Rehabilitaion Centre in Durban, South Africa. A similar doll is featured in the doll book: "The Encyclopedia of Regional Dolls of the World" by Marjories Fainges, page 137, bottom picture (and other doll books). 16" high. South Africa, Africa C.1975. Makers marks: Label attached giving the name of the doll - "Sihusisiwe" , "The S.A. Red Cross Society Durban", and "This is a product of the Red Cross Rehabilitation Centre. We thank you for purchasing it and hope that you and your friends will continue to support us".
